BIOGRAPHY

Paola Matienzo was born in Argentina. While studying primary and secondary school, she takes the Classic Dances career in the Escuela Nacional de Danzas.

She continues her studies in the University of Salvador, graduating in social communication. At the same time, she also courses studies in interpretation with Rubén Shumacher, staging with Ricardo Bartis, dramaturgy with Rafael Spregelburg, and some practices in theatre interpretation with these directors: Augusto Fernández, Agustín Alezzo, Roberto Villanueva and Luis Romero.

At that time, she also acted in the next films: “Buenos Aires me mata” (Dir. Beda do Campo Feijó, cast), “Sucede lo que pasa” (Dir. Teresa Constantini, participates), “Mataperros” (Dir. Gabriel Arregui, protagonist). She also acts in a médium-length film “Año nuevo” (Dir. Ramiro Longo, protagonista) and two short films “Gallito ciego” (Dir. Maximiliano Laina, protagonista) and “Se va la luz”, this last one as director and actress, while coursing Film Direction at CERC. Career that she will have to quit in 1999 as she had to move to Spain for familiar reasons.

Once in Madrid, she obtains a scholarship for the Young Directors of Scene studies in Casa de América, where she takes classes with: J. Sanchis Sinisterra, Juan Mayorga, Guillermo Heras and Mauricio Kartún. She also takes a master in audiovisual production in the Universidad Complutense of Madrid and homologates her degree in publicity and public relationships.

In 2010 she creates Azarte, a place of creation, production and exhibition in Madrid, in which she is now Director and programmer. Since her arrival, she has written and directed various plays for AZarte and other places and exhibitions such as SURGE, where she has premiered 4 times. Two of her plays were selected by the Network of Alternative Theaters for a national tour and another by Platea in two consecutive years. “Lo que tú quieras” was selected for a international tour.

participates as an actress in the tv shows “Angels i Sant” and “Infidels”, both for TV3 in Barcelona, and in 2019 in the Netflix tv shows “Elite” and “Alta Mar”. She also participates in “La maldición del guapo” by Beda Do Campo Feijoo.

In 2020, she directs, writes and acts in two short films: “20 Años” and “Botas”, selected for festivals with Yaq distribution.

In 2021, a film adaptation of his work “Lo que tú quieras”, was selected at the international LAB in Colombia

In Europe she trains with directors like: Asghar Farhadi, José Carlos Plaza, Pablo Remón, Gracia Querejeta, Miguel Albadalejo, Cesc Gay, Roger Gual, Carlos Sedes, Mariano Barroso, David Serrano, Benito Zambrano, Luisa Armenteros, Javier Daulte, Miguel Narros y Tamzin Townsend.

And Worked in more than 20 plays like:

“Umbrío” written and directed by Josep María Miró. “Demonios” by Lars Norén, directed by Julián Fuentes Reta, released in AZarte, currenty ongoing. “Roma” by Paco Mir, chosen by the Red Nacional de Teatros and by the Platea Program for two national tours, re-released in 2014 in the Teatro Alfil, and also for an international tour in United States. “Dentro y fuera” by Víctor García León two seasons in “Madrid, tour with the Red Nacional de Teatros and Surge festival. “Lo que tú quieras” written and directed by herself with 4 seasons in Madrid and an international tour in Argentina.

In United States she participates as actress in the plays: “Los libres cautiverios de Ricardo y Leonisa” by Joseph María Miró in the Miami Dade Auditorium, “Nosotrosuyonuestro” also by Joseph María Miró and production by the Spanish cultural Center in Miami, and “Nada Personal”, directed by Alberto Mateo.
